Playa Visa Elementary School

Our Community

Playa Vista Elementary School represents a unique partnership between Loyola Marymount University, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the local community.

In addition to the partnership with LMU, PVES is geographically positioned to take advantage of a wide variety of community resources. Directly adjacent to the school is the Ballona Wetlands Discovery Park. The school’s inquiry-based STEM curriculum has the opportunity to take full advantage of “community science” – the park’s urban ecology and wetland history resources, with outdoor learning and urban ecology projects at the students’ fingertips. Hands-on activities utilize the Ballona Wetlands, urban garden and city infrastructure as pathways for engagement. The children may take the lead in identifying environmental and community issues, and then drive the creation of service projects to find solutions.

Corporations in Playa Vista’s technology-based business campus provide real-world examples of science and technology in the workplace. The Playa Vista Public Library extends students’ resources and research opportunities. Playa Vista Elementary School is a place where children not only learn to appreciate and understand their environment, but also embrace their responsibility for it.
